Entertainment in Koh Samui
Samui is a holiday island with plenty to do, but formal entertainment is fairly thin on the ground. Here are just a few of the places I like, but do let me know if you think I've missed somewhere.
Chaweng Beach
Tropical Murphys
Chaweng Main Street.
A popular Irish theme pub that often has live bands.
Christy Cabaret
Chaweng Main Street, just north of Soi Green Mango.
Not live music but live singers and mime performers form the ladyboy community. Good fun and always popular. Expect to be hassled for a good tip.
Green Mango
Soi Green Mango, off Main Street.
Large open space with plenty of room to do your thang!
Reggae Pub
On Samui Lagoon, near boxing stadium.
A Samui institution that has grown from a wooden shack to a large disco attracting the 18-30 crowd. Good sounds but don't go expecting reggae, you could be disappointed. Lamai Beach
Super Sub
In the soi opposite the Boxing bars
New Disco on the block. Lights, music (House/trance etc.) and dancing girls (on the bar). Taken over as the in-spot from Bauhaus, sometimes stays open late when the Old Bill ain't watching.
The Bauhaus
Main Street.
A large operation with a central disco that churns out techno every night until the police step in and insist on silence. In the days of late closing this was the place everybody converged on after the bars shut.
Siam Bar and Grill
Main Street opposite Bauhaus
The home of Ovada Band, probably the most sort after band on the island. Live entertainment featuring Ovada most nights, and on Monday's with Elvis tribute artist Ritchie Newton. Packs them in most night as the band rocks the house!
Buddy Beer and Susuie Pub
On the road from Lamai Central to Chaweng
Although well located right on the beach the main claim to fame, of this vast new operation, is the 24 restaurant, well that is what the licence says but I would call it a 24 hour bar!
Buddy Beer is an indifferent Thai restaurant that serves beer all night. Susie Pub is a disco come pool hall that closes at 2 am. |
